(After 7 weeks)

The Viability Scan is performed using a Doppler or a 2-D scan, and is used to detect the presence of the fetal heart. The Dating Scan measures the size of the gestational sac or the crown rump length. If the baby’s heart in not visible but the sac is intact, patients will be offered a repeat vaginal scan which should be performed at around 8 weeks of pregnancy. If the baby’s heart is still not visible, it is likely that the woman has experienced either a blighted heart or silent miscarriage

*Depending on your results throughout the pregnancy, your gynaecologist may recommend that you participate in further testing.
