Dr Ismail spoke about miscarriages in early pregnancy in Sayidaty magazine, issue 1949 on 14th July 2018.
An English translation summarizing the article is below the photographs.
It is important to understand that any bleeding during early pregnancy (before 12 weeks) will signify a problem. Therefore it is essential to consult a gynaecologist who will be able to find the reason for the bleeding and treat you accordingly, to avoid a miscarriage.
There are many reasons that this bleeding could be taking place:
- Decline in corpus luteum function which supports pregnancy growth
- Body rejection
- Anatomical disorder
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Severe anemia
- Lack of vitamins and minerals- having a Vitamin Infusion will greatly benefit you in this case
In general, to decrease the chances of a miscarriage, you should avoid sexual activity and take a period of rest from work, whether employment or in the home. However I do not recommend complete bed rest because this could lead to other complications. Avoid work, but keep yourself gently mobile.
In cases of multiple pregnancy i.e. twins, the bleeding could indicate that one is a failed pregnancy, so you may shift from a multiple pregnancy to a single pregnancy.
Hospitals too often do not treat the threat of miscarriage seriously enough, and tell women to just go and rest. This is not good enough- bleeding during early pregnancy needs appropriate investigation and care.
