Dr Ahmed Ismail | Consultant Gynaecologist & Fertility expert | Negative impacts of PMDD
Dr Ahmed Ismail | BBC interview | 31.07.2020
Consultant Gynaecologist & International Fertility expert at Queens Clinic
Negative impact of PMDD on women
Dr Ahmed Ismail had a recent interview with BBC Arabic to discuss the effects of premenstrual dysphoric disorder on women’s mental health. Within the interview, Dr Ahmed Ismail discusses surgical management of PMDD and the negative impact it has on a woman’s life.
“I don’t agree with this dangerous procedure. Gynaecologists shouldn’t be allowed to remove the uterus of a young woman without a reasonable reason. Women are having their ovaries and uteruses removed as a way of relieving their symptoms of PMDD. These supposed ‘treatments’ are irreversible and have an even bigger impact on a woman’s wellbeing. Some women are even experiencing suicidal thoughts which I believe is caused by a multitude of personal and lifestyle factors, not just from PMDD hormonal changes.” -
